Meet our District Team!

 

Meet our core team…

District Chair of Trustees : Alex Fletcher

Alex leads our Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is accountable for the Governance of Scouting in the District; ensuring that we meet out aims and objectives as a charity as well as maintaining our compliance obligations.

District Lead Volunteer : Mike Brown

Mike is accountable for the operational aspects of Scouting in the District; setting the culture and strategy, supporting adult volunteers, ensuring safety and safeguarding compliance, and inspiring everyone to be their best.

Deputy District Youth Leads : Ben Borg-Heffernan (South) , Ben Jacob (North)

 

 

 

 

Our District Youth Leads ensure that all of our decisions have young people at their centre.

They meet regularly as a team and provide essential input that shapes what we do.   They hold regular youth forums to enable young people across the District to give feedback.

District Programme Support Team Lead : Steve Richmond


Steve heads up our Programme Support Team.    This team is responsible for enabling the District to offer exciting and challenging experiences and adventures to young people.
They provide support and guidance to volunteers wanting to deliver residential experiences, adventurous activities, international experiences that enable young people to achieve our Top Awards.
The team also includes our Scout Active Support units that provide resources and guidance to district events and also requests from groups.

District 4 to 14 Team Lead : Tim Hope

Tim leads or 4 to 14 Team.    This team provides support in two ways…

Section Support Leads.    These volunteers provide specialist support and knowledge to volunteers in each of our youth sections – Squirrels, Cubs and Scouts.   They give advice on programme content, arrange district-wide sectional activities, and create opportunities for volunteers to meet together for peer to peer support.

Group Lead Volunteers.    Each Group in the District is managed by a GLV.   The 4 to 14 team help to ensure the GLVs are supported, are kept up to date and have opportunities to connect together to support each other.

District 14 to 25 Team Lead : Martin Taylor


Martin leads our 14 to 25 team.    The team deliver an active programme for Explorer Scouts aged 14 to 18, including our young leader scheme, where young people are able to volunteer in the leadership teams in groups across the district.
The team also provides our Duke of Edinburgh provision, and supports international experiences including Explorer Belt.
Our 18+ youth programme is called “Scout Network” and is also coordinated in this team; keeping connected with our alumni regardless of whether they live locally or further afield.

District Volunteer Development (People) Team Lead : Elizabeth Insley

Elizabeth heads up our Volunteer Development (People Team).    This team ensures that we provide a warm welcome from the moment someone enquires about joining Scouting.   They oversee our awards process to recognise our volunteers, and support our volunteers through delivery of learning opportunities and promotion of inclusion, equality and diversity across the movement.

District Resources Team Lead : Ian Mackintosh


Ian is responsible for our District Resources Team.
This team ensures we make the best possible use of our Headquarters building and keep it running smoothly – both in terms of infrastructure and all of the facilities in the building.

The team also manages our District Shop, which is open to the public on Tuesday evenings for provision of uniform and badges.

Our resources team also look after our digital resources including our collaboration tools, our website and our social media channels.

 

District Campsite Team Lead : Mark Eden


Mark’s Team manage one of our largest assets – our District campsite.
The team ensure it is welcoming, running safely and remains a special place that Scout Groups both locally and from afar want to keep coming back to.

 

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
