Adult Learning

At Macclesfield and Congleton District, we believe that providing easy access to learning for our adult volunteers is key to providing safe, fun scouting to all our members; and that all adults should be able to build new skills just as our young people do!

“My roots” – learning that everyone needs

We recommend that volunteers complete learning that is assigned to them in the membership system as quickly as possible, paying attention to the due dates.
Overdue learning does mean that your role will be suspended until it is completed – meaning you will miss out on all the fun of scouting and not be able to access any venues where Scouting takes place until it is completed.

My roots includes Safety, Safeguarding, Who we are, Data Protection, Creating Inclusion and Delivering a Great Programme.
Safety and Safeguarding is repeated every 3 years by all volunteers.
First aid (First Response) is also repeated every 3 years for those who need it.

For trustees there is an additional learning module to help you understand what a trustee is, and how this important role helps to run our charity safely.

For those in lead volunteer roles, additional learning is also available in “My Roots” to support you in your role.

“Branching out” – optional learning towards a “Wood Badge”

The Scout’s Wood Badge is awarded to volunteers who complete a range of additional learning and demonstrate capability of learned skills.
The module details can be located in the “Branching Out” section of the membership system.

To validate a “Branching out” module please contact a volunteer with “Learning Assessor” accreditation.   You can find a list of these here:

Useful training documents

This legacy document is useful in understanding the validation requirements for some of the “Branching out” modules that remain in place in our new membership system.

Learning Dates – First Response (First Aid) and “Branching out” courses.

Courses are delivered by both the County Learning Team and the District Learning Team.
You can find dates for courses on the respective websites.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
