Barnswood Scout Campsite
Barnswood Scout Camp is the jewel in the crown of Macclesfield and Congleton Scout District. It consists of 63 acres of ancient woodland and is located between Macclesfield and Leek near Rushton Spencer.
Barnswood has 19 discrete camp sites of a variety of sizes from accommodating 18 campers to 150 on our largest site. This means that Barnswood can be used for a wide variety of types of camps from D of E Expedition Hikes, to Patrol Camps, Group Camps and whole district events.
There is a large car park at the entrance to the site as well as designated parking areas around the site. The Barnswood team can advise how best to manage parking if you are planning a large camp on the site.
There are also three buildings each with large communal rooms, bedrooms with bunk beds and a kitchen. One of the buildings also has indoor toilet and shower facilities.
There are also 9 discrete activity areas which include the Beaver Fun area, two campfire circles (one under cover) a hammock area and places suitable for bivvy and shelter building.
There are 4 toilet blacks around the site, two of which have hot shower facilities, which are really appreciated if you’ve taken advantage of the nearby Rudyard Lake and its water activities.
Surrounded by some of the best walks that Staffordshire and Cheshire have to offer, it’s also a great base for hiking. The Roaches is only down the road and recognised as one of the best outdoor climbing and bouldering locations around.
If high speed thrill-seeking is more to your taste, Alton Towers is only a short journey away with its Adventure and Water theme parks.
Barnswood is run by volunteers from the district and we believe that it’s an amazing place to be.
We love to show it off and share it with other youth groups. So please come and visit and see what a special place it is.
