SAMUEL HILL
49622, Private, Samuel Hill, 13th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment, former number 4118.
Born in 1897, son of Samuel and Hannah (nee, Brookes),Hill, of, Daisy Bank Cottage, Sutton . Samuel was educated at St Peters Day School and on leaving school, he was employed as a packer at Mr. Robinson Brown, the Royal Silk Warehouse. Samuels siblings were Eva, Dorothy, Elizabeth Hannah, William and James
Samuel enlisted 22 November 1915 at Macclesfield and after training at Oswestry, was drafted with the British Expeditionary Force to France in June 1916. The 13th Battalion were engages in the battle at Messines (7th to 14th June). This battle was a preliminary move in a plan to occupy the belt of high ground which runs from Armentieres to Dixmunde, and which overlooks the Ypres Salient. Samuel died of wounds received Sunday 10 June 1917, fighting at this battle, he was aged 20.

Private, Samuel Hill is buried at Wulverghem-Lindenhoek Road Military Cemetery West Vlaanderen, Belgium
