District Treasurer Vacancy

Date: 30th May 2026 Author: Ian Mackintosh

Do you have a good head for numbers, without losing sight of the big picture?

You could use your talents to help transform the lives of young people in our local community.

You could be our next Volunteer District Treasurer.

Our Volunteer District Treasurer supports the members of our trustee board by keeping track of
our money. It’s a great way to “give something back” as part of our successful team.

What does the District Treasurer do?

• Oversees the District Finances as a whole, managing our small team of Bookkeepers
• Prepares Annual Accounts. Liaises with auditors and the Board of Trustees
• Prepares Annual Budgets and cashflow forecasts to support our District Strategy
• Ensures compliance with legal requirements, accounting standards, policies and rules.
• Contributes as a Trustee to the ongoing development of the District

How much time does this need?
• We ask Trustees to attend a Trustee Board Meeting 6 times a year (approx. 2 hours each)
• 3 year term, with options to renew for up to 9 years.
• Time needed for the role varies depending on time of year. Peak activities include Annual
Subscriptions in March, Preparing for the AGM in June, and budget reviews in September.
• We know that life can be busy, so we’re all about flexibility: This is a very flexible role which you
can fit around your family, work and social commitments.
• Our Bookkeepers manage the day-to-day transactions – invoicing, paying bills and expenses
• We have recently moved our accounts to XERO to simplify the role and reduce the time needed

On our Trustee Board, all of us have different skills to offer, come from different backgrounds and have varying experiences. This helps to ensure a variety of perspectives and a more rounded team.
The board plays a very important part in the running of our District, enabling us to deliver fun, safeadventures and experiences that give skills for life to young people and adults.
No previous experience of Scouting is necessary. What’s more important is your own skills and experience as well as empathy with our mission and values.
We provide a warm welcome, a sociable network and some short online learning to support you and help you get started as well as lots of ongoing support.
Being a part of scouting is great fun and it goes without saying that supporting young people can be one of the most rewarding things you can do. If you have an eye for numbers, then why not support the growth and development of young people and our leadership team by taking on this vital role?
