291460, Private, Fred Hall, 1/7th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment former number, 4237.

Born in 1894 at Macclesfield, son of Matthew and Elizabeth, (nee, Taylor), Hall, of, 77, Pitt Street, Macclesfield. Their other addresses were 60, Old Mill Lane, in 1911, and 92, Park Lane in 1917. In 1911, Fred was working in a paper mill, packing paper. Fred married Alice Wallworth in the 2nd quarter of 1916 registered at Macclesfield.

Fred was drafted with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force to the Egyptian theatre of war which spilled over into Palestine. The 7th Battalion were engaged in the battle of Ali el Muntar and at 3.30 p.m. on the 26th March, they were thrown into the fight on the left to support the 5th Welch. Ali el Muntar was the key to the Turkish position, and by now the 7th Battalion were coming up, their place at Divisional reserve, having been taken by the 161st Brigade. They eventually took over Ali el Muntar and consolidated the position. Fred is recorded as died, Monday, 26 March 1917, aged 24 years.

Medals: British War Medal and Victory Medal.

Private, Fred Hall is buried at the Gaza War Cemetery, Israel/Palestine.
