News about Barnswood
September 2024
Barnswood is holding a Big Weekend 2nd and 3rd of November. The
purpose of the Saturday is to showcase Barnswood, so just come for a
good look around and chat with team members. If possible, there will be
some activities such as archery, shooting, pioneering, geocaching,
backwoods, etc for you to try. The purpose of Sunday is to help out
getting lots of maintenance jobs done ready for winter. Because it may
be necessary to manage traffic, we are asking you to sign in.
Barnswood has dealt with the vagaries of the weather with equanimity.
Despite the wind, rain and hot weather, it is showing little sign of use
despite having people on site for 106 of the last 123 days (May to
August).
As you walk around you may notice that the Friday team have built an
excellent shelter by TB2 that will house pot washing facilities for
lightweight campers. The plumbing is scheduled for autumn.
Security at Barnswood has been enhanced through HMP dog training
taking place when no one else is on site. This makes it even more
important that you book in and don’t just turn up.
The warden and maintenance teams have, without fuss, resolved issues
with toilets in TB1, showers in TB3, everything in TB4, blockages from
Camp Hall sinks, cooker control malfunction in Marsden and various
fences. They also found time to convert a useless leaf sucker to an
impressive leaf blower. You will notice the benefit of this later in the
Autumn.
