News about Barnswood

October 2024

Barnswood is now in Autumn mode with groups making use of the new season. Some are searching, and finding a range of fungi, (we have identified over 30 different ones) those below, I saw last week.

Other groups are building shelters (the group that built in the wilderness area on 21st were flooded out by the biblical storm that struck in the evening) the picture here is four made during a cub evening activity.

Still other groups are keeping their eyes open for signs of our local mammals, we have a dozen that are resident or frequent visitors.

We have aids for identifying fungi, trees, birds, mammals and plan to get some for insects (yes we have those as well).

November 2nd Leaders are invited to bring their families to see for themselves and try out activities that are either self led with equipment available at Barnswood (pioneering, orienteering, compass trail, nature watching, backwoods cooking, outdoor craft, Beaver & Squirrel fun area)or with district equipment and instructors (archery, shooting, slacklining, radio comms). Please sign in here so we are fully prepared for you.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
