News about Barnswood

December 2024

We had a great “Big Barnswood Weekend” at the start of November with a number of families enjoying the good range of activities put on including pioneering, archery, slacklining, radio management, backwoods cooking, tree planting, craft work and making bird boxes and feeders. The event will be repeated next year.

This was followed by an effective working day preparing for winter, clearing a site, building a path and filling in the access road potholes – again.

We are now in our low season, with the water turned off on the North and South Loops and the summer cleaning and grass-cutting contracts terminated. So campers are asked to keep the toilets clean themselves.

Although the camping season has slowed down, the work behind the scenes has not. Our Friday Team has been beefed up by the addition of three recent retirees who seem to be enjoying themselves having been made very welcome (as you would be if you joined us).

This team are working through the recommended tree work following our regular site survey as required by our tree management plan. This will involve felling around 50 trees and monitoring another 900 over the next 12 months.

They have inspected the buildings and have scheduled work to bring them up to tip-top shape. The sites and roads need clearing of leaves and some drainage work to prepare for next season, so there is plenty to do.
