News about Barnswood

June 2025

What an early summer! During the continuous hot weather, Barnswood showed its versatility with many groups using its copious dappled shade to conduct activities without getting too hot. The grass is now getting its monthly cut and, surprisingly, is looking green. Many groups from our district have made use of the free visit opportunity – but unfortunately have not always cleaned TB4 after their use. Please leave it as you found it – ready for the next visitor.

A lot of work is going on to spruce up the area by Wardens Lodge and I will provide more photographs when it is complete. Here is where we are at now.

Meanwhile the Friday team have been doing essential work clearing diseased rhododendrons and then organised Explorers for the burning when there was less fire risk. See below.

Talking of fire risk, we have appreciated that our customers have been happy to use altar fires only under the dome.
If you are attending JOTA, the booking system is available for you to pick your preferred site. Remember to include the night you are pitching your tents. If you are not attending JOTA, you may not book a site 17th-19th October.
