2347, Private, Thomas Alfred Green, 1/7th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment.
Born in 1895 at Hurdsfield, Macclesfield, son of Sergeant, A. E. Green, Royal Engineers, and Clara Green, 3, Richmond Hill, Macclesfield. In 1901, Clara Green was living at 10,Hollins Terrace, Macclesfield. Prior to enlistment, Thomas was employed as an electrician at the Hanley Theatre. He was also a member of the 2nd Macclesfield Boy Scout Troop.
Thomas attested at Macclesfield, 21 September 1914, and after undertaking a course of training he was drafted with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force to the Dardanelles, landing at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli, arriving, 09/08/1915. Thomas had been in the trenches four days when a sniper shot him in the head, Friday, 13 August 1915, he was aged 20 years.
Medals: 1914/15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
Private, Thomas Alfred Green has no known resting place and he is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey.
