W. A. ALBINSON.

Lieutenant, William Arthur Albinson, 3rd Battalion, The Queen’s, Royal West Surrey Regiment, formerly, Cheshire Regiment.

Born 14 August 1896 and baptised 4 November at Christ Church, Macclesfield, son of silk steward, William and Mary Albinson, 31, Bond Street, Macclesfield. In 1911, fourteen year old William was living at 15, Charlton Street, Macclesfield with his parents and siblings Joseph and Gertrude. He was educated at Christ Church School then the Grammar School. William was also a member of the 3rd Macclesfield Scouts Troop. He was later employed as a grocer’s assistant with the Macclesfield Equitable Provident Society.

William enlisted at Macclesfield in June 1915 and was initially, 291250, Private, W. A. Albinson 3rd Battalion, Cheshire Regiment, he was gazetted to the Royal West Surrey Regiment, 17/12/1917; he was drafted to France, 17/04/1918. William was killed in action; Friday, 26 April 1918 aged 21 years.

Medals: British War Medal and Victory Medal.

Lieutenant, William Arthur Albinson is buried at Hangard Wood British Cemetery, Somme, France.
