Mike began in Scouting as a Cub Scout, and joined adult volunteering in 1993 as an Assistant Scout Leader in Hinckley, Leicestershire. He moved to Macclesfield in 2001 and has subsequently served as a Scout Leader and Assistant District Commissioner (Scouts), Group Scout Leader at 6th Macclesfield, and more recently Local Training Manager for the Macclesfield and Congleton District.

Alex Fletcher
District Chairman

I started Scouting as a Beaver in 1999, and have been with the organisation since. Through my time in Beavers, Cubs and Scouts I spent most of my time lighting fires and generally getting more muddy than most of my fellow Scouts. Throughout this period I was also lucky enough to selected to be one of 40,000 Scouts worldwide to attend the 2007 World Scout Jamboree which was held in sunny Essex and happened to be on the 100th anniversary of Scouting, which was an unforgettable experience that shaped where the rest of my life both within and beyond Scouting.
My time with Explorers and Network Scouts took me through many exciting experiences from my local campsite to the high peaks of the Himalaya where I completed my expedition for my Queen’s Scout award, another unforgettable and life-changing experience.
Since becoming an adult member I led a Scout troop in Macclesfield and have been involved in many district events. I am also an active member of our District climbing and mountaineering team, so you will normally find me hanging off a rope, teaching climbing or summiting mountains with groups of Scouts. Since 2020 I have been in the role as District Chair as I wanted to take on a role which I could give as much back to Scouting as Scouting has given me, and to ensure that Macclesfield and Congleton continues to be an amazing place to be both a young person or adult volunteer!

David Jones
District Treasurer

I have had a varied career in scouting, serving in several Groups and Districts across the country as a result of many house moves. My roles have included Treasurer, Group Scout Leader, Appointments Secretary and ADC Adult Support, across Kent, London and now Cheshire.

Ian Mackintosh
District Resources Team Lead Volunteer

Up to the age of 18, I was a cubs, scout and venture scout in West Yorkshire. I re-joined the movement when I moved to Macclesfield in 2006 and my children joined 3rd Macclesfield Upton Priory Scouts. I was the Scout Leader through to 2017, spent some time working away and was an ASL at Henley on Arden during this time as well as ADC Scouts at Harborough in Leicestershire before joining the District Team as a Deputy District Commissioner. I had 3 months as acting DC whilst recruitment for the DC position was filled before moving into my current role.

Neil Raval
District Growth and Strategy Lead Volunteer

I was a cub, scout and venture scout, achieved my Queen’s Scout Award and
attended a world scout jamboree as a participant. When I went to university
I helped lead a scout troop and cub pack before setting up and running a
venture scout unit. I had a break from scouting for a number of years before
rejoining in 2010 as District Explorer Scout Commissioner and then took on
the role of Network Commissioner which I left in April 2022 to start my new
role. I am also on the district communications and activity teams. I love
helping people achieve things that they thought were not possible.

Tim Hope

I started my scouting journey when I joined the 6th Macc beaver colony. I have then moved through the various sections of 6th Macc before joining the Zulu explorer unit. Whilst I was an explorer I earned my Queens scout award where I have one of my favourite scouting memories parading at Windsor Castle for the Duchess of Cambridge. Since then I have been involved in various activities for the district including being part of the climbing team and also helping on the Macc hike every year. I started my role as DDC during the pandemic and have enjoyed working with the groups of Macclesfield centre since then.
