HAROLD COUPS

738, Sergeant, Harold Coups, 1/7th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment.

Born in 1885 at Heaton Mersey, Stockport, son of William John and Elizabeth, (nee, Lowe), Coups, they moved to 269, Buxton Road, Macclesfield. The 1911 census shows Harold to be employed as a joiner, however, by 1914, he was employed as clerk of works at Calico Printers Association, Oxford Street, Manchester. Harold was a Scout Master with the 8th Macclesfield Troop

Harold was a member of the Territorials and had been since they were formed in 1908. He attested at Macclesfield and was drafted with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force to Gallipoli, landing at Suvla Bay, 09/08/1915. He was severely wounded, Monday, 16 August 1915, and army records report he died at sea on this date, this would have been aboard a hospital ship, he was 30 years of age.
Administration of the Probate to his Will was with William John Coups, dyer’s foreman; Effects, £184.1s.6d.

Medals: 1914/15 Star British War Medal and Victory Medal.

Sergeant, Harold Coups is buried at East Mudros Military Cemetery, Lemnos, Greece.
