Nights Away Skills Camp 2025

15th and 16th March – Barnswood plus

Evening session 4th March District HQ

Nights Away are an essential and integral part of delivering a balanced programme and are an enjoyable and rewarding experience for both Leaders and youth members of all sections (yes – including Beavers and Squirrels).

There are permit categories for both indoor and outdoor overnight experiences.

If you do not currently hold a Nights Away Permit (NAP) and would like to gain the skills and confidence to get one, or you would just like to brush up on your practical skills to lead a camp, we are running a camp planning evening and weekend skills camp.

The first part is an evening at HQ from 7-9.30pm on Tuesday 4th March where we will cover:

  • Camp planning and administration
  • Planning a menu
  • Identifying specific skills individuals want to learn or refresh over the weekend

The second part is a week-end at Barnswood on 15th and 16th March. Here, we will cover the practical aspects of running a safe and enjoyable overnight experience. It is preferable for participants to stay overnight (in a tent or in the building) but not essential.

Should you then decide to work further towards obtaining a Nights Away Permit, you will be paired up with a Nights Away Advisor who will support you in planning and leading your first overnight experience.

There is no cost for this skills camp, just your time, sense of adventure and a willingness to take on new challenges.

No previous experience is necessary to join in. If you would like to come along or would like to discuss further, please email: ian.mackintosh@mcscouts.org.uk

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
