CHARLES DALE

307359, Sergeant, Charles Redwood Dale, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, formerly, 1309, Cheshire Regiment.

Born in 1894 at Macclesfield, son of Charles Johnson and Helena, (nee, Redwood) Dale, of, 27, Park Street, Macclesfield. Charles attended Christ Church Day School and was connected with St Paul’s Church. Prior to enlisting, Charles was an apprentice dentist, working for Mr H. G. Pannell in Macclesfield.

Charles was in the local Territorial unit, 7th Cheshire Regiment, and mobilized at the commencement of the war. He was drafted with the British Expeditionary Force in 1916 and transferred to the Royal Warwickshire Regiment

He was promoted to Sergeant 12 months later. His engagement in hostilities was at the Ypres Salient and sadly he was killed in action, Monday, 3 September 1917, aged 23 years.

Medals: British War Medal and Victory Medal.

Sergeant, Charles Redwood Dale has no known resting place and he is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, West Vlaanderen, Belgium.
