News about Barnswood

March 2024

Over the winter, Barnswood has been working to improve our guests
experience. We have improved the access track and provided a
permanent bad weather shelter by the main car park.

Although the access track retains its uneven charm and speed limiting
humps, it does not have those potentially damaging holes. See below.

On site, the track damage by the chapel site where the tree came
down has been repaired.

If you are arriving or leaving in bad weather, do use the permanent 6m
x 6m tent (similar to Beaver base tent) on Fern bank (at the far end of
the main car park).
See below;

We have had some changes in personnel. John Worth, who
represented Barnswood’s history and used his tremendous fund of
knowledge to good effect, has stepped down from the management
committee and been replaced by Shaun Jones, who will represent the
Friday working group. We also welcome Edward Parish, who brings
enormous enthusiasm for Scouting history, to the museum
management team.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
