News about Barnswood

January 2024

The New Year is seen as a time to look forward and make plans.
The Barnswood Team are using this quiet winter period to do essential
maintenance, develop plans in line with the district strategy and prepare
new activities utilising Barnswood’s unique environment. I will report
them in the newsletter when done.

We have had an acknowledgement by Staffordshire Moorlands traffic
department of the poor state of the road entrance. Its repair is now on
their list of jobs. We have submitted a set of development plans and are
awaiting a response.

This New Year sees a change in Barnswood’s treasurer. Adrienne
replaces David, who did an excellent job developing robust procedures
whilst paying suppliers promptly and ensuring there were no bad debts.
We would like to increase the size of our warden team. Do you fancy a
weekend in a marvellous rural location looking after interesting people?

If you are free some Fridays, how about joining our regular maintenance
crew? They do a great job, undertaking projects (current one is creating
a washing up area for lightweight expeditions) and doing small internal
and external maintenance. Want to know more, contact Mark Eden.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
