News about Barnswood

August 2023

July has been wet, very wet. Indeed one camper described the rain as
being of biblical proportions. There was so much rain that on one occasion
a few sites had standing water, but only for 2-3 hours. Barnswood’s
excellent drainage saw to that. We also experienced a near miss from a
lightning strike. It is in weather like this that the shelter provided by the
Dome is so greatly appreciated.

We have had campers on site every day in July, yet most sites are standing
up well. The extended main car park has coped with all the traffic and the
excellent benches made by our Explorers are proving popular with all ages
of guests.

Entrust’s archery bosses and axe targets on Merebrook may be used with
the appropriate equipment and instructors. However, you don’t need
instructors to use their suspended parachutes (on Beech Tree & near
Hillside) just respect them. Book activities via: Click here for on site activities

A reminder that Barnswood is only available on the weekend of 20th-
22nd October to M&C groups attending JOTA. For those of you
attending, booking is open and early birds get a larger choice of sites.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
